In the era of anything-goes wedding style, coloured wedding dresses have become an increasingly popular choice, and the undisputed shade of the moment is blue. Bridal-wear designers have fallen for trending tones of powder, denim and sky in a major way.
Though wearing a blue wedding dress is certainly an unconventional choice, it does align with the tradition of the age-old wedding rhyme: “Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.” It’s not just beautiful, it’s good luck.
“If ever there was a colour that was more traditional than white for a wedding dress it would be blue,” says Jordan Stewart, founder and designer of RVNG Couture. “I also think blue is one of the most romantic colours of all time, which makes a blue wedding dress such a beautiful and fashion-forward choice.”
Stewart currently loves robin’s egg as a hue for a wedding dress, for its gentle, flattering and feminine properties. “Alternatively, I also love the idea of a mature true-blue tone, which makes for an incredibly striking statement piece,” she says. “This would really elevate your wedding look and be highly personalized and ultra-chic.”
When it comes to accessorizing, Stewart suggests going monochromatic. “I love the idea of layered shades of blue,” says Stewart. “Keep your veil in the same colour family as your blue wedding dress and your shoes as well. I also think a nude heel looks stunning as a wedding shoe choice.”
